Rectal Cancer Treatment

Rectal Cancer Treatment-The most common treatment option is surgery. Cancer of fat and surrounding lymph nodes removed and the two ends of the cut back together. If for some reason the colon can not be merged back, an artificial opening for the colon, called a stoma, may be required. This opening allows the waste removed from the body when the normal opening can not be used or should be removed. Colostomy may be temporary or permanent.

Depending on the stage of the cancer, chemotherapy may be needed after surgery to increase the likelihood of a person to recover from cancer. Chemotherapy is done by injection of anti-cancer drugs into a vein in the arm. Chemotherapy, which runs from 6 to 12 months, usually associated with canker sores, diarrhea, mild hair loss, the possibility of darkening of the skin, and nausea.
